Eigens für die Textilsammlung Max Berk wurde von der gemeinnützigen Organisation Studio Art Quilt Associates, Inc. (SAQA) aus den U.S.A. der Wettbewerb „Abstraction: Textural Elements“ ausgeschrieben. Aus 493 Einsendungen traf die europäisch besetzte Jury eine repräsentative Auswahl von 47 Quilts, darunter neun aus europäischen Ländern wie Deutschland, England, Frankreich, Italien, Litauen und der Schweiz.

Abstrakte Kunst ruft Gefühle und Gedanken durch einfache Elemente wie Linien, Formen und Farben hervor. Sie ist nicht an die reale Welt gebunden und besitzt eine unermessliche Vielfalt. Abstrakte Kunst kann eine Idee mit wenigen Mitteln ausdrücken, ähnlich wie ein Gedicht eine lange Geschichte in kurzen Worten erzählt. Dies können Besucherinnen und Besucher in der umfangreichen Schau „Abstraktion: Gestaltungsprinzipien zeitgenössischer Artquilts“ anschaulich erfahren.

The non-profit organisation Studio Art Quilt Associates, Inc. (SAQA) from the USA announced the ‘Abstraction: Textural Elements’ competition especially for the Max Berk textile collection. From 493 entries, the European jury made a representative selection of 47 quilts, including nine from European countries such as Germany, England, France, Italy, Lithuania and Switzerland.

Abstract art evokes feelings and thoughts through simple elements such as lines, shapes and colours. It is not bound to the real world and has an immeasurable variety. Abstract art can express an idea with few means, much like a poem tells a long story in short words. Visitors can experience this vividly in the extensive exhibition ‘Abstraction: Design Principles of Contemporary Art Quilts’.
